Our Grand Reunion News

June 11, 2010

Our 50-Year Grand Reunion Gala and Weekend is only 2 weeks away and will soon be upon us. And it will be better than just grand – it will be spectacular!!

If you missed out on a room at the Hyatt and need to seek alternative accommodations elsewhere, here are some other possibilities nearby that you might try:

And d
on't forget to bring your video and still cameras.
This is going to be a magnificent event
to celebrate a momentous milestone in our lives!
And we are going to have a blast!!

Many people have been inquiring about reunion details, so in case you haven't heard the news, here is the latest in the form of our answers to "frequently asked questions":

1.  When does our Saturday night Gala start, and how much will it cost
to attend?

June 11, 2010

Doors open to the Grand Ballroom at 7 pm on Saturday night (June 26th) for a one-hour "meet-and-greet" followed by our brief program, then dinner.

Despite all the special features we are planning for this very special occasion, and the fact that we have chosen the busiest weekend (a very special weekend for us as it contains the exact 50th anniversary of our graduation day in 1960), we have succeeded in keeping the price the same as our 45-year reunion in 2005. The cost of attending this once-in-a-lifetime event was to be $99 per person (less than you would likely spend on a Broadway show) if you registered timely.  It is subject to a $10 discount for dues-paying Association members and/or a $10 penalty for late registrations (after June 4th).

2. Where do I get registration information?

June 11, 2010

If we had your current contact information (either "snail-mail" or e-mail), an invitation/registration form was mailed to you by Reunions Unlimited requesting your RSVP and payment, and you should have received it . Click here to view it and print it if not.

3. Will special meal requests be accommodated at our Reunion Gala? We have arranged to be served a sit-down dinner with four tableside menu choices (flatiron steak, chicken, salmon or vegetarian). If a kosher meal is needed, it will be necessary to contact me to request it in advance.

4. How should we dress for our Grand Reunion Gala? As always, our Grand Reunion Gala is your party, and you are welcome to dress anyway you like. No one will be considered over- or underdressed. However, we invite you to consider that this will be the best '50s party you ever attended – and it will be your "really senior senior prom" – so if you like, for some extra fun, you might wear '50s-style prom formalwear or your other most authentic 1950s garb. No matter what you wear, everybody's gonna rock tonight!

5. What other plans have been made for our Grand Reunion Weekend?

June 11, 2010

  • Friday night, June 25th: We recently completed arrangements for an informal Friday night mixer at Napper Tandy's, a Smithtown Irish party pub about 10 minutes away from the Hyatt at 15 East Main St. (631/360-0606). No advance reservations, minimum or cover charge will be required. Just join the fun, and pay for what you order. Come anytime beginning at 7 pm ; stay as long as you like. Very informal. Serving drinks and offering an inexpensive and widely varied pub menu - http://www.nappertandysirishpub.com/smithtown/menu.html.

  • Saturday morning/afternoon, June 26th: In addition, we expect be able to arrange in advance for several starting times for golf on Saturday at the Hamlet Wind Watch Golf and Country Club, a semi-private club with an 18-hole championship golf course connected to the Hyatt. We will be seeking advance reservations from golfers by e-mail in April or early May. The green fees will be $99 on Saturday morning and $69 after 1 pm.

Tennis at one of the Hyatt's two courts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; no advance reservations are available.

  • Sunday morning, June 27th: We have reserved a private room at the Paradise Diner (http://paradisedinerli.com), about 5 minutes from the Hyatt, to round out our 50-Year Grand Reunion weekend with a Sunday brunch. You will be able to order your meal from the regular menu or select a prix fixe breakfast or brunch at a price not to exceed $14/person (plus tax and tip). Service for our group will begin at 10:30 am.

6. Will most of us likely come to our Grand Reunion Gala with our spouses or alone? We now xpect that about 1/2 of those who come will bring their spouses, and the others will come alone.

June 11, 2010

7. How will we recognize each other after as much as 50 years? All of us will be issued a nametag bearing our yearbook photo. If your photo is not in our yearbook, you are invited to send me a photo (preferably a .jpg scan by e-mail) that shows your face about the same size as a yearbook photo and the way you looked in high school.

March 5, 2010

8. Who will be attending? Until they have paid their admission fees, it is impossible to tell who among us will actually be at our Grand Reunion. Based on preliminary expressions of interest, we expect our Grand Reunion to be be extremely well attended!

An alphabetic list of those classmates who have registered to date. Since many others have expressed interest, we still expect this list to grow. The list is followed by selected portions of some of our classmates' comments.
